Empty your mind and think of the first thing that reminds you of a destination wedding in Greece. We bet it’s the sun, or the coolness of the sea, or even a peaceful walk barefoot on a beach. For Mary and Vaggelis it was all that and even more when they decided to have a destination wedding on PAXOI, a small group of islands in the teal waters of the northern Ionian Sea, South of CORFU.
For couples choosing Greece for their wedding, it can get pretty overwhelming choosing an island. All the destinations boast a unique personality, with countless islands to choose from. However, for Mary and Vagelis flying from Sweden to PAXOI was the only choice, since they have fallen in love with the islands long before their wedding day. Even a pandemic could not keep this couple from having the wedding they desired, so they persevered with their wedding plans and finally celebrated exactly how they dreamed with 38 of their closest friends and family – and it was an a air to remember!
Elegance was the word. We worked closely with the couple on a concept that revolved around the delicate elegance of summertime in Greece, inspired by the whiteness apparent in many aspects of the country and the subtle and ever-present luxury of gold. Combine white and gold and the result is always refined. Mary and Vaggelis’s wedding was luxurious yet balanced, sophisticated, and above all celebrating the openness and lightness of summer.
The ceremony was held in the small monastery of Panagia Bellianiton. For those that have been on the island, the monastery and its surroundings hold the undeniable charm of the Mediterranean, the one you see in movies like Mediterraneo or The Big Blue. We decorated the door of the church with a flower garland with greenery and flowers abundant in Greece, like bay leaves, hydrangeas (indigenous to so many islands), lisianthus, roses, and chrysanthemums.
If something worth investing in a wedding day is a memorable experience. Mary arrived at the monastery on a traditional boat that was used for generations to carry brides to their soon-to-be husbands. With a symbolic meaning of traveling through the ripples of the water to what really matters, Mary arrived at the church accompanied with folk wedding tunes played by two local musicians, where she met Vaggelis, waiting for her with the warmest smile. He o ered her a bouquet of white roses (how appropriate) and hand in hand they entered the chapel where they’d be one forever. Immersing yourself and your guests in the traditional wedding customs of the destination you’re choosing, adds so much value to your wedding day - Mary and Vaggelis wanted to give their guests a truly authentic experience.
Couples choose the islands of the Ionian sea because their beauty is undeniable. After the intimate wedding ceremony, we curated a lovely reception on the beautiful restaurant of Erimitis that overlooks an amazing vista overflowing with refreshing greens. We curated everything according to the wedding style, bringing in specially selected furniture and dinnerware. White and touches of gold, as well as modernly constructed centerpieces and details, made the dinner setting so elegant and set the tone for the rest of the night. The part we adored? The wedding favors, decoratively sealed with wax and personalized with the names of the bride and groom!
We believe this wedding perfectly encapsulated the elegance of a summer wedding in the Ionian sea, illuminated by the freshness of sunlight and the authentic greek personality the island holds. Of course, such a result wouldn’t have been achieved without the tireless work of the wedding professionals we trust event after event and the beautiful imagery of Kostis Mouselimis that highlighted the beauty of Mary and Vaggelis’s destination wedding in Greece.
